The Coolhunter – Lifestyle Show Trailer

A short 2-minute lifestyle trailer for the “So You Think You Can Make TV” Contest at Paperny Films. We had lots of fun creating storyboarding, shooting, and editing this video, and ended up in third place overall for the competition!

Keys N Krates Live Performance

I’ve always wanted to test my Canon 5d Mk II camera in low-light situations, especially since I recently upgraded to the very fast Canon 50mm 1.2 lens (Usually when shooting in low light conditions, regular “DV” cameras with show a lot of digital noise or graininess in picture quality). So, naturally when I heard that the live remixing group Keys N Krates were coming to town, I thought this work be a great opportunity to put this lens through it’s paces! This shoot was on location at the Lamplighter pub in Gastown using only what little lighting was available. Special thanks to “B” and “C” camera work from Zandro Salvo and Shawn Edstrom!

My inspiration behind the shoot originates from the Kino-Pravda video series shot by Dziga Vertov in Russia during the early 1920s. This film series created nearly 100 years ago is equally, if not more powerful than much of the documentary work being produced today. Kino Pravda translates literally to “Film Truth.” Vertov’s goal was to visually capture Truth on Film, fragments of actuality which, when organized together, have a deeper truth that cannot be seen with the naked eye….

Fireworks and Lightning

Saturday, July 25th 2009 was South Africa’s day for the “Celebration of Light” in Vancouver, Canada. On this day, both spectators and pyrotechnics were pleasantly surprised to see more than they had anticipated — an absolute spectacle through the synthesis of natural and man-made light in the sky.
